The current weeds may be an issue for boaters and swimmers but not a huge threat.
Kevin Flatley asked if there is a problem with safety because of these weeds.
Mike said yes there could be if the weeds became thicker and someone became caught in them. He also said you can spot treat them with chemicals if needed.
Kevin was concerned of the safety of these chemicals.
Mike said they are safe and effective.
Gerry McCall spoke about chemicals the he is aware of that may take care of the weeds and touched on other chemicals he used in the past on other lakes that have remedied them.
Joe Giarrusso asked; as far as your (Mike) concerned Forest Lake is in good condition? Mike said yes.
Joe inquired about the Bottom Barriers and stated we have a nuisance in the weeds not a problem and that we have an eco-system we want to maintain for a healthy lake. Kevin Flatley asked Mike about prices and procedure.
Mike estimated:
1. $3000.-$5000 Notice of intent, permitting ect.
2. $5000 for Chemical Control
He said it may vary year to year depending on what comes back.
Greg asked Mike about the geese issue and the potential dangers.
Mike said mainly e-coli.
Joe Giarrusso stated there was a lot of educational literature for the water front owners and beach goers to deter them from feeding or making the lawns attractive for the geese. The end result we will always Have geese, whether they are resident geese or migrating geese, we just have to keep them under control. Mike gave the Association some options:
1. Chemical treatment.
2. Hydroraking (which he felt was not the way to go because of the rocky bottom of the lake.
3. Bottom barriers (tarps you can use in bathing areas which is less intrusive and no chemicals.)
The Association thanked Mike for all his insight and for his time.
