MINUTES: FOREST LAKE ASSOCIATION MEETING NOVEMBER 13, 2014 Present: Angela Kalivas, Lisa Wagner, Fred Wagner, Al Torisi, Marcia Burns-Mittler, Art Mittler, Gail and Greg Doyle, Cheryl and Kevin Flatley, James McLachlan, David Aufiero and Joe Giarrusso The $10 dues per person was collected by Angela. Angela submitted a Treasurer’s Report stating that the balance in the checking account is $743.28 and the balance in the savings account is $2671.01. Joe Giarrusso gave an update on water quality during the season. Bacteria level stayed within required perimeter this past summer. There was only one spike that would have affected the beach area. State allows for retest – when they did the retest everything was fine. Draw Down has been started. Below 50% draw down and will be accelerated. As far as the weed treatment, there was no need to implement the treatment this year. The water lilies also were not treated because they were not significant enough. There shouldn’t be any money issues for filing fees and lake inspection in future years if weeds again become a problem. A question arose regarding whether we received the signs that were asked for. Environmental police said they couldn’t police the outboard motor use on the lake. Joe designed a sign – outboard motor with slash through it but doesn’t have the budget for signs. Motion was made and passed to put out money for the signs. We will also have another sign made up about fishing at the ramp that will state No Fishing on Pier. State regulations say you can’t fish from a ramp. We also requested notation on the sign Do Not Dispose of Trash in the Lake – If you bring it in, take it out!. Motion was made to allow Joe to contract for two signs with no more than $200 and was seconded and accepted. (Joe later indicated funds are available) A question arose about other quality testing being done. Nutrient levels have been taken and were extremely low. Fish and Wildlife stocked lake for the Fishing Derby - gave 200 lbs. Statement was made indicating the communication has never been better. Mayor Zanni has created a 5 person Forest Lake Commission. He advertised for applicants and Kevin Flatley, Marcia Burns-Mittler and Al Parisi said they applied. The Mayor expressed strong desire to improve the beach area and considers the lake a hidden gem. He is considering installing a concession stand, maybe having a gate with an attendant. There was some talk regarding whether the Forest Lake Association would continue to operate, however, it was agreed that there is no conflict with the new Commission. The question was raised as to how the Forest Lake Association would work with the Commission. Joe didn’t have any information on that. There was a successful Fishing Derby held at the Lake. Fish and Wildlife helped with this. The point that the beach closes too early in the season was brought up by Marcia Burns Mittler. The meeting ended with election of officers below and appreciation for the past Officers.
