He said he will set up a meeting with newly elected Pres.Chris DiBella and go over all concerns before the next meeting. There were some questions as to how we should be getting out the minutes to the meetings. There are a few lists of e-mails, addresses and phone numbers of which Kevin Flatley has volunteered to put in order. It was determined that Jennifer Kannan would do the minutes and Jack Burke would post them on the FLA website and if possible on the MCTV website. Jack will also be sending out a general email of the minutes. He is going to see if a person from the Health Dept and Conservation Department would attended the next meeting.
Water Quality Expert:
Gerry McCall stated that his contact could not attend tonight’s meeting, but he will try for another meeting.
Kevin Flatley has a yard technician that can come and speak on the chemicals he uses that does not harm the lake.
VP Kalivas (Greg) mentioned that the past 2 years has been exceptionally bad with geese droppings on the lake.
Dave Aufiero said it so bad he put up a fence.
It was determined by all that the city needs to look into this and try to remedy the issue by having someone monitor the people on the beach who are feeding the geese.
Gerry McCall spoke about the various reports that have been performed over the years dating back as far as 1985 to 2008. Many commented and Gerry gave further details of the report.
The main concern from the report was the high concentration of pollution near Palanga St.
Dave Aufiero stated hopefully all those home have tied in to city sewer.
There was talk of getting the Health Department or proper authority to survey the residents who live on the water and see if they are all tied in.
Some questioned whether or not people would let the city on their property to perform testing.
Dave Aufiero spoke about how the testing and the studies on the dam were done. Then over the years money for these programs ran out and the facility at UMASS was also shut down due to money constraints.
We can find out about who can fund the testing from the Health Department.
Wayne Couture asked, how long ago did we have a meeting at St. Francis Hall?
He stated that at that time the lake was getting better.
Gerry McCall would like to see if any stimulus money is available for the lake.
Steve Zanni said he will speak with Joe Giarrusso about the lake. He said Joe will know what is needed.
Al Torrisi made a motion that Dave Aufiero and Gerry McCall to be on City’s stimulus committee if possible.
Kevin Flatley seconded. Upon Vote: Unanimous
Gerry McCall asked if Jennifer Kannan and Jeanne Papparlardo would seek legal advice about testing around the lake.
Steve Zanni will also look into a house located at 37 Palanga St. which is on the water and in very poor condition.
Greg Doyle said he has heard a lot of great information tonight, but years ago there use to be 60-70 people here, he stated we need more support and should start looking to beef up the membership.
It was decided that Tuesday nights would be better for all for the meetings.
VP Greg said he would talk to Pres. Dibella and they will inform us of the date of the next meeting. It is also going to be posted on the website. Al Torrisi motioned to adjourn, Steve Zanni seconded.
Vote: Unanimous Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
