Open Letter to Mayor Manzi and the Methuen City Council
From the Forest Lake Association
February, 2010 Re Sand/Salt Removal from the Streets around Forest Lake One of the worst activities possible for sustaining Forest Lake for the Methuen community is the use of sand and salt on our watershed roads in winter. We can’t do without sand and salt on the roads in winter, but we would like to assure that the streets abutting the lake are swept as early in spring as possible to remove the winter’s stock left on the abutting roads. One good rainfall in early spring creates piles of invasive, polluting sand in the lake. If one street sweeper could be sent early in the spring, the lake will surely be assisted. We have suggested the attached route for the sweeper, to make the project as easy as possible. Last year the sweep in the area was early, but several streets went upswept until very late in spring. Thank you for helping to make Forest Lake the great resource you’ve helped preserve over the years.
